This past August, community residents and activists conducted a 5k walk in support of legislation to support underserved immigrant students.
Those organizing the walk included Latinos Progresando (http://www.latinospro.org/), The Resurrection Project (http://www.resurrectionproject.org/home.aspx) and a handful of educators.
Participants and organizers met at 24th and California chanting, “WALKING FOR immigrant students that are underserved and DESERVE a university education!!!!” Others were not as amplified but did say that “We are WALKING a 5K for their DREAMS to realize. Take ACTION on their Dreams and impact legislation.”
Young people were highly represented in the walk with many of them showing their support through hand printed t-shirts.
