State of the Art, Affordable Senior Housing to Open in Pilsen
New Building Will Provide 72 Adults (55 or over) with Affordable Rental Housing
The Resurrection Project, a community-based non-profit located in Pilsen, is nearing completion on its latest development project, Casa Maravilla, an affordable rental building for adults 55 and over. Casa Maravilla, located at 2021 S. Morgan Street, Chicago IL 60608, will provide 72 units of high-quality affordable rental housing to Chicagoland seniors.

Casa Maravilla brings exciting opportunities for older adults in the community with the opening of a City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services Senior Satellite Center on the first floor of the building. The Senior Satellite Center will provide tenants and surrounding neighbors 55 years and over with health education, exercise classes, speakers and group field trips. Seniors will also take advantage of the Golden Diners Program, which serves hot nutritious meals for adults age 60 and over and provides another opportunity for community members to meet and build relationships with their neighbors. Further, Casa Maravilla’s location directly north of Alivio Medical Center will provide tenants with quick and convenient access to medical care.
The economic recession and depressed housing market have increased the communities’ need for affordable housing, especially for older adults. “TRP is proud of Casa Maravilla; our first affordable rental housing for seniors,” said Guacolda Reyes, deputy director at The Resurrection Project. “Our seniors deserve the best and TRP has worked hard since the projects’ inception in 2005, when we approached Alivio Medical Center with the idea of acquiring their parcel next to their clinic to develop affordable housing. Today we celebrate the development of Casa Maravilla – just the latest success story born out of a true partnership between The Resurrection Project and Alivio Medical Center, who have been working together for many years to improve the quality of life in Pilsen.”
Over the past twenty years, The Resurrection Project has developed more than 300 units of affordable housing for rental and ownership on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
Casa Maravilla includes 72 studio, one- and two- bedroom apartments and features a variety of green building technologies, including pervious paving to decrease run-off and a partial green rooftop system, which will reduce energy consumption and water entering the storm sewers. Casa Maravilla is also one of Chicago’s first residential buildings and low-income housing tax credit buildings to utilize an innovative and environmentally geothermal heating system, which draws on the earth’s natural heat to both warm and cool the building, dramatically reducing energy costs.
The work and mission of The Resurrection Project, a community-based nonprofit, is to build relationships and challenge people to act on their faith and values to create healthy communities through organizing, education and community development. The Resurrection Project primarily serves the neighborhoods of Pilsen, Little Village, Back of the Yards, and Melrose Park on Chicago's Southwest Side through initiatives such as affordable homeownership and rental housing, financial education, leadership development, and civic engagement.
