The Cost of State Budget Problems

Everyone has heard about how bad the state budget is these days, but it's not always clear what that means for communities and Illinois' residents. In a recent segment on the news at ABC-7, the impact for one local agency and the families it serves was explained.

For El Hogar Del Nino, a Pilsen childcare center that offers affordable daycare, afterschool care and other programs for more than 300 children in the area, the crisis has meant that state payments are often three or four months behind.

If the state budget passes as it looks like it might right now, the agency's executive director, Denise Castillo Dell Isola, says that El Hogar Del Nino would lose as much as $200,000, which translates to cutting classes for two classrooms and a total of 40 kids. As Castillo Dell Isola explains, that spells trouble for the working parents and their jobs.
