Beginning back in May, middle school students were given the opportunity to enroll in an online video production and broadcast journalism class. Through the Digital Youth Network’s online video curriculum, students could learn to create news stories that are meant to impact their communities and neighborhood. A brief introduction to the contest was given on May 15th at YOUmedia in the Lozano Chicago Public Library.

Students are welcome to stop by the YOUmedia space at the Lozano library to learn how to access the online curriculum required for the contest. With a library card, students are also welcome to use YOUmedia equipment, including laptops and cameras, to create their video entries for the contest. Students are highly encouraged to participate in the YOUmedia workshops where they can learn skills to improve their video entries. These workshops include Digital Video, Graphic Design, and Digital Music.
The prizes for the contest are:
1st Place - iPod Touch
2nd Place - Netbook Computer
3rd Place - Gift Certificate
It is not too late to join! July 13th is the final date to submit your video entry. Good luck to all our young journalists! Stay tuned to see what they come up with!
