PILSEN ARTIST LOFT BUILDING SETS A TREND IN THE INDUSTRY
Opening Doors To House an International Artist For New Artist-In-Residency Program
(Chicago, IL) It’s the building coined as the new merchandise mart, located in Chicago’s Pilsen community. Known for its zesty style offices and some of the best event spaces in the Midwest, Lacuna, is now making a new statement in the artist industry. The building is opening its doors for an artist in-residency program. The first of its kind at the establishment, which will offer free work space for six months to up and coming international artists, as well as feature the chosen residents work in the building’s first floor main art gallery.
“We want to offer more than space here at Lacuna, I want to allow artists to grow and expand through our offerings, I believe everyone can grow and that’s what we are about here at Lacuna,” said Joey Cacciatore, Lacuna lofts owner. Columbian artist Esteban Patino, is the featured chosen artist in-residence sharing his talents through what he calls a language. “The aim of my artwork is to forge a connection between language, art and human awareness,” said Patino. “Having recently moved to Chicago, I am extremely grateful and excited to have this opportunity to work with Lacuna Artist Lofts,” he went on to say.
The contemporary Latin artist, Esteban, uses a language to showcase his artwork and will be developing his talents under well-known artist Hebru Brantley. Brantley’s style derives from graffiti worn buildings, Saturday morning cartoons and comic books. Brantley mixes mythological comic heroes and Japanese animation infused in his artistic work. The artist is residence, featuring Esteban, will run from May until November 2012. A special art exhibit with showcasing his artistic style will occur in August at the Lacuna Artist Lofts Building.
