Tech giant Google has announced it will be building ultra-high speed broadband networks in trial locations across the country--100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today. How can Pilsen become one of these locations? A big part of the choice will be nominations from community residents who explain why they want to have access to these 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections.
Google explains what this kind of speed can provide:
"Imagine sitting in a rural health clinic, streaming three-dimensional medical imaging over the web, and discussing a unique condition with a specialist in New York. Or downloading a high-definition, full-length feature film in less than five minutes. Or collaborating with classmates around the world while watching live 3D video of a university lecture."
The City of Chicago has created a clear explanation to Google of why Chicago and the Smart Communities are a great option for this affordable ultra high-speed Internet access. The next step is for local residents and community groups to tell what kind of access they have now and explain why their neighborhood should be one of the few that will get the new service.
Once you get a Google account, you’ll just complete a quick form. The whole process should take less than ten minutes.
