The Resurrection Project fact sheet

In 1990, driven to action by the blight and crime infecting their streets, six parishes in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood each contributed $5,000 in seed money to start an institution-based community organization to help area residents address these problems.

Nineteen years later, The Resurrection Project (TRP), founded with a mission to build relationships and challenge people to act on their faith and values to create healthy communities through organizing, education, and community development, has leveraged that initial $30,000 to over $174 million in community reinvestment in the neighborhoods of Pilsen, Little Village, and Back of the Yards on Chicago’s southwest side.

TRP works alongside residents to create healthy communities through vehicles like affordable housing, financial literacy, and promoting access to education and health care.

TRP serves over 1,000 families annually through its core initiatives:

Community Development:

TRP develops affordable, high-quality construction and long term homeownership and rental opportunities, community facilities, and commercial properties, and educates families on homeownership and financial literacy matters through workshops, counseling, and advocacy.

Community Organizing:

TRP creates local leadership in the areas it serves so that area residents become catalysts for social change at the local, regional, and national levels. This initiative provides leadership development formation, building community leaders that tackle issues facing the community such as: health, safety, housing, immigration, and education.

As lead agency for Pilsen in LISC Chicago's New Communities Program, TRP has also convened over a dozen neighborhood organizations and agencies to form the Pilsen Planning Committee, whose Quality of Life Plan for Pilsen lays out a five-year revitalization plan for the community.
