Description
San Jose Obrero Mission (SJOM) is an interim housing facility located on the near southwest side of Chicago. SJOM works to end homelessness in Chicagoland by offering men, women, and children 24-hour living accommodations and an individualized program of case management, career coaching, life skills training, referral and follow-up services through our Men in Crisis and Families in Crisis programs. Our mission is to provide housing and employment services that lead to self-sufficiency among families and individuals in crisis within Latino communities. This position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the professional implementation of San Jose Obrero Mission’s residential and supportive services. By participating as part of the program management team, the position oversees and ensures the implementation of SJOM’s Residential Services policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for verifying that accurate residential records are maintained as well as preparing residential services reports. Organizational RelationshipsReports to: Executive DirectorSupervises: Case Managers, Intake Specialist, Cooks, and Program Staff Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establish collaborations to facilitate Career Training, Life Skills, Financial Literacy, Landlord/Tenant Rights, Domestic Violence, Self-Defense, GED, Literacy, and any other training that meets the needs of our participants
2. Ensure case managers and program staff are appropriately trained
3. Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with case managers and program staff to provide reports to ensure employees’ work goals are met
4. Develop a network to reflect a full range of appropriate resources for SJOM
5. Build relationships between SJOM and stakeholders such as community organizations, neighbors, residents, and shop owners
6. Ensure staff’s professional development is addressed through appropriate trainings
7. Address performance counseling issues
8. Conduct annual and bi-annual evaluations with case managers and program staff for Men in Crisis program
9. Ensure staff adheres to SJOM personnel work policy
10. Ensure participants follow SJOM policies
11. Perform participant interviews to collect and consolidate data from case managers' reporting
12. Input all participant data into tracking systems
13. Prepare residential services reports, program reports, and statistical reports
14. Provide Executive Director, Government and Contracts Manager, and Resource Development Director with client reports as needed
15. Maintain participant database and tracking information through HMIS and agency database
16. Ensure accurate residential operational records are kept
17. Serve as SJOM expert on needs and opportunities for the homeless
18. Represent SJOM at community meetings, consortiums, and town halls meetings
19. Maintain awareness of homelessness issues and alerts SJOM when action may be necessary
20. Oversee case managers and program staff schedule
21. Perform other assigned duties.
Position Requirements
• Bachelors degree in social work or related field preferred or Associates degree with minimum of 3 years social services experience, preferably with homeless populations
• Knowledgeable of homeless resources
• Availability to work flexible schedule including some evening and weekend hours
• Proficient in English and Spanish required
• Valid Illinois drivers license
• Outstanding organizational, team-building, verbal and written communication skills
• Skilled at active listening and complex problem solving
• Ability to collaborate with others and function in multi-disciplinary setting
SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEComputer knowledge including knowledge of Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and other software applications
Complete required training of Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) data collection and case management system within 90 days of hire.
